

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Credentials
Paramedic students learn to assess the urgent needs of patients, stabilize their conditions, and perform advanced life support (ALS), to include administering IV fluids, injections, and medications. Students also learn advanced patient assessment, airway management, pharmacological interventions, and many other lifesaving medical techniques. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the NC OEMS credentialing examination for Paramedic.
Course Prerequisites
- Students must be a North Carolina EMT, NREMT or other State EMS credential, with preferably a minimum of 6 months of verifiable field experience. Proof of this requirement may be provided by a letter from a chief officer or pay stubs.
- 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.
- Students must have either a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED or HiSET).

Location: Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties
EMT students will learn medical terminology, how to assess patients, and multiple hands-on, life-saving skills. Hands-on learning includes: assessing and triaging patients, medical equipment operation and maintenance, critical thinking and problem-solving, and clinical assignments just to name a few. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the NC OEMS credentialing examination for Emergency Medical Technician.

- High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing reading comprehension and English language skills at 11th grade level.
- Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class
- Valid driver’s license required.

This dynamic, 96-hour course features lecture, video, simulated emergency situations, discussion, and hands-on skill practice. This is an entry-level course for state certification and covers all techniques of emergency medical care presently considered within the scope of the Emergency Medical Responder. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the NC OEMS credentialing examination for Emergency Medical Responder.

- High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing reading comprehension and English language skills at 10th grade level.

The Emergency Medical Science degree program provides individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care as a paramedic for critically ill and injured patients who access the emergency medical system and prepares graduates to enter the workforce. Students will gain complex knowledge, competency, and experience while employing evidence based practice under medical oversight, and serve as a link from the scene into the healthcare system.
The Bridge option will allow currently credentialed Paramedics to receive 45 semester hours of credit toward the associate degree. The remaining course work to complete the degree in Emergency Medical Science requires a minimum of 24 additional semester hours of work. Students must take 25% from the required hours of the degree at Central Carolina Community College to meet the residency requirements. Note: Only the bridge option is being offered at this time. Students must complete their paramedic program through an accredited continuing education program such as 在线电子游戏网赌’s or a similar program before applying to the bridge program.
